Thanks for giving me my start in radio...

Thank you Jack Ellery for my start in radio!

It's the mid 80's. You had a contest to do your show from a listener's
house. My sister had knee surgery. Our story was second place. We were
invited to the show.

From a s dining room table in Middlesex Twp., I did my first read: Foster
Grant, maybe :15 if that--a slip you handed me and said "Read this.". I
was hooked.

THAT MANY PEOPLE hear me?

I went from SBHS to U of MD & WMUC-AM, top 40 Casey Kasem stuff at from '90
to '93.

Remembering you & Donna at Mslouf made me want to do live remotes. On a
carrier-current station, with an old phone CODEC, if someone ran tunes at
the station, talent could be anywhere. I did a few. Neat, even with a zap
from an EV635A once.

I went into hospitality in DC and am now in KMOX-town.

So, take me plugging Foster-Grant, marinate 25 yrs. and...
garyallen.talkradio.com . A rare v/o and 2 local TV spots.

Famous only in my mind.

Thanks, Jack for giving me my first mic!

Answers from Jack Ellery

1. Most folks do not use their real names in EMail addresses.
2. The poll wasn't perfect, but it served a purpose.
3. Older folks are just stubborn coots if they won't adapt to the new
technology. Of course they could use a PC, they're just trying to stick it
to younger folks by not joining the tech revolution
4. WCTC knows it has to appeal to Central Jersey. There was a reason for
going to the music. Our Talk hosts were costing us a fortune and were not
getting ratings. This is a business, you know.

Illegals To Get Health Care

Just heard today that if the new Health Care Bill eventually passes, no
matter how it is written, illegals will get the same health care as the
Americans. If the bill excludes Illegals than they can challange it thru
the ACLU to the Supreme Court. The Court has previously ruled that for
social programs etc. you can not exclude Illegals from education etc. and
will take the position that Health Care is also a social program. In fact
the government budget has also certified that this health cost will not
create a deficit (Obama's requirement) and in the figures they used,
Illegals were counted in. Another skewing for the American taxpayer.
Cheers

Jack Blows Off David Oct 9, 2009

Gee Jack I thought you were always COOL but David really got to you today
and you killed his mike. So much for rational talk. Wonder if that were a
Muslim Cleric with a beef and if you would blow him off like you did David,
although by no stretch am I a David supporter. As for the Mexicans in New
Brunswick, the schools are forced to take them in. In fact the courts have
told all NJ towns on education, gotta take them in. Wait till Obama's
health care takes over and we will all be paying for that. And our
politicians will continue to get their free health care which the public
will pay for. Nothing like a Socialistic State it seems.

Why Did Rutgers (Have To) Shut Down the Ace Club?

It seems that RU only wants to have "booster" clubs for the 3 major sports
(Football & M/W Basketball) and not for any other teams. It took RU 7
years to shut down the Ace Club which had been started to support the
womens' volleyball team. No explanation was ever given as to why it needed
to be terminated. It would be nice to know the real reason why that was
done.

Are We All Morons?

Should be read and understood by all Americans:

The U.S. Post Service had 234 years to get it right—and it is broke.

Social Security had 74 years to get it right—and it is broke.

Fannie Mae had 71 years to get it right—and it is broke.

War on Poverty started in 1964; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated
each year and transferred to "the poor"—and they only want more.

Medicare and Medicaid had 44 years to get it right— they are broke.

Freddie Mac had 39 years to get it right—and it is broke.

The Department of Energy was created in 1977 and it has ballooned to 16,000
employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than
ever before.

You have FAILED in every "government service" you have shoved down our
throats overspending our tax dollars—AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU
CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM??

Are you crazy, or do you just believe all Americans are morons too???

Not the Rich look

Jack, in respect to Andrew from Al, I have been quiet but after listening
to you blow your cool today, well it too stirred me up. I believe most of
your listeners after hearing you for the first time well know your dislike
for Bush. I mean if something is wrong, well "W" did it. Your caller Andy I
believe calling Obama a bum was somewhat over the top but I would have said
Obama has a problem with his skin, not color, but thin skinned.Thinks he
can push his way on everything or can't take criticism. Just before going
here I sent an email to AARP stating that I would not be renewing my
membership if they support this present health care bill. I don't believe
any of our representatives fully understand the bill and quite frankly I
doubt few if any will be around to see it's failings. And again why should
they care? They will have their own plan. As an aside, the heavy hitters,
Obama Biden, came in and pushed Corzine. I figure one more appearance and
he would have lost Middlesex Cty

Fort Hood Massacre Questions

Jack, you expressed skepticism that the Fort Hood shooter could fire enough
rounds to kill 13 and injure 30 before being taken down. You speculated
that some of the injured or dead must have been casualties from friendly
fire. The main questions I have: How many pistols was the shooter packing?
What type of pistols were they (how many rounds per clip)? Do we know yet
if he was he armed to the hilt with many pistols (for example such as the
main character in the film Taxi Driver)?

Roger - Fort Hood

You raise excellent points and I'm sure you will agree that in the coming
weeks, not days, we will know more about the makeup of the gunman and all
the problems associated with him. Some will decry war and what it leads to
and others I'm sure will spin a different story. The one thing Jack said I
can agree on and that is some papers didn't give the space he thought it
should command. I too felt it was front page stuff but then again I'm not a
publisher who knows what my readers are looking for.

Listeners

It is amazing how many rumors we in the media endure. My audience knows so
little about me, but think they are my biographers. Actually, that's the
way I like it, but it is humorous to hear the rumors (some of which I
start). It's all in fun, although some listeners get pretty tight,
insisting they know the 'truth'. It makes the mornings a little more fun,
and we at the station, in particular, get a chuckle or two out of it.

NJ Transit train goof-ups

You mentioned the train that missed Princeton Junction.

Not unusual. I was on a train that missed Edison Station in 1985 and along
with several hundred other people had to get off at New Brunswick and come
back.

There were many instances of when the train personnel would only have the
front of the train platform at Edison. The conductor would tell everyone
to walk forward to disembark and would open the doors in the front of the
train. However, the conductor would not realize that doors for cars
stopped over the Plainfield Avenue bridge would be opening up into
nothingness. If anyone rushed out those doors, they would have fallen to
their deaths on the street below.

On another occasion, train personnel announced that due to over-crowding,
the train would go express to Newark, causing riders who wanted to
disembark at intermediate stations to protest.

None of this ever made the news.

If such things happened on a NYC subway train, the personnel would be
dismissed.

John Lynch

Jack: I can't understand why you had to read the home news article about
John Lynch on the air today. People know how to read. Or did you think it
was yet another way for you to slander him? Chris Christie is disgusting.
He has committed more egregious crimes then were ever thought about by
John Lynch. Wake up. You don't live in the state, so why involve yourself
in our business? I'm not interested in you reading the newspaper to me. I
can do it myself.

No doubt you won't answer my email. You are way too important.

Synopsis to Listeners

Thanks for coming. Thanks also for all the items posted on this website.
I read them all, but answer few. Reason? This is a place for you to tell

RATZERFRATZER

Jack: I grew up listening to you on WCTC, announcing school closings,
playing music and the like. The other day, out of nowhere, I said
'RATZERFRATZER!' Guess you never forget some things. . .

All the best to you, Jean in PA

Posted by: Jean S. Kessler Date: 11/15/2009

To Jean

Regarding the school closings - The kids in our school had the unofficial
Ellery Scale. At 5:55 AM you would hear the static/krackle before WCTC
signed on. Jack would sign on
at approximately 6:00. If Jack signed on at 6:05, look outside. There was
a 25% chance that there was no school. (Apparently Jack opened up the
station in the old days.) At 6:10, a 50% chance. If it ever got to 6:20
-
go back to bed. When I became a teacher, Jack was still at it. One
morning, he didn't sign on until 6:35. There was a freezing rain. Jack
had a difficult drive into the station. He said that it was the worst
drive ever. He had every superintendent burning up the phone lines.
Problem was, the temperature rose above freezing around 7:30. I had a
relatively easy drive and "turn around". I was back in bed by 8:30 thanks
to Uncle Jackie. If he seems at times to have an ego, this is why. On one
winter day, he alone had shut down Central Jersey.

Maple Syrup

Jack,
On this mornings program the guy from Alabama - I forgot his name,
mentioned he wanted pancakes with real maple syrup. You said you can't get
real maple syrup. I guess you don't do any shopping in your household. Go
to any supermarket and you will find pure maple syrup. It may cost -3 times
more thaqn that other stuff but its worth it. Thats all we have ever
used.

And to give you credit- the Turkey Recipe is great. We had our doubts
about it, followed to the T and it was delicious. Makes no difference the
kind of oven, because we have a convection oven and it was still ok.

Andrew in AL has found his maple dream

Major news event--I have located a Pure Maple Syrup, grade A dark amber by
none other than Log Cabin--a new product they have introduced this year and
available at Sam's Club--my flapjacks will never be the same...I hope the
listeners of Jack's morning show do not take alot of the small talk I
render too seriously--many times (when I call) my intro: (first 20 or so
seconds) is just something I throw out there to get a chuckle...the syrup
comment was one such situation...the gist of my call was to raise awareness
to the media circus which will soon ensue with the terrorists upcoming
trial in NYC...Attorney General Holder wants it his way--he will choose the
venue--he will dictate the theatre of (formal) hearings involving those
reportedly responsible for the 9-11 attacks...right now he is steering the
cart of justice, if you will, and, I am doubtful such intrepidness is
necessary....Happy Thanksgiving to all!
